The MSSM of Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) is being established to provide quality music education for North-East India and beyond.
Course Duration
Bachelor of Music Degree – 6 Semesters (3 years) Bachelor of Music Honours Degree – 8 Semesters (4 years)
Course Content
The curriculum fosters personal growth and creativity with a focus on Western classical, sacred, and ethnic music. Every Semester includes Applied Music (Individual tuition in one instrument), Performance Lab & Ensemble. Year 1: English, Research Skills, Bible, Music Theory, Aural Skills, Choir, Music Appreciation, Class Piano, Introduction to Conducting, Form in Music.
EVERY SEMESTER INCLUDES APPLIED MUSIC (INDIVIDUAL TUITION IN ONE INSTRUMENT), PERFORMANCE LAB & ENSEMBLE.
Year 1:
English, Research Skills, Bible, Music Theory, Aural Skills, Choir, Music Appreciation, Class Piano, Introduction to Conducting, Form in Music.
Year 2:
English, Bible, Theory, Aural Skills, Choir, Music History & Literature (Medieval & Renaissance), Class Voice, Introduction to Church Music, Choral Conducting, Congregational Song, World Music.
Year 3:
Music History Literature (Baroque – 20th Century), Introduction to Ethno Music, Choral Conducting, Music Education, Composition & Arranging, Music Computer Application, Music Elective, Choir, Non-Music Subject.
Year 4:
Students major in Applied Music, Conducting or Sacred Music. These include the following courses:
- Applied: Literature, Pedagogy, Vocal Diction (Vocalists) Keyboard Harmony (Pianists), Senior Recital.
- Conducting: Choral Literature, Choral Diction, Advanced Conducting, Voice Pedagogy, Senior Recital.
- Sacred Music: Music & Worship, Philosophy of Church Music (CM), CM Administration, CM Ministries, Senior Project.
Eligibility/Requirements
Minimum qualifications required:
*Class XII passed with minimum of 40% marks in any stream.
– Result awaited students can also apply for audition.
Application Process:
March-April: Applicants must submit the duly filled Audition Form with all required documents to Patkai College Office by April 22.
Class 12 students apply with results pending.
May: Eligible applicants are called for audition and entrance test which will be held on May 10-11. At audition, applicants perform two pieces and are interviewed by the Faculty. Music Theory knowledge is assessed by the Entrance Test taken on the same day.
Results of the audition are given within a week.
July: Semester begins.
