The MSSM of Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) is being established to provide quality music education for North-East India and beyond.

Bachelor of Music Degree – 6 Semesters (3 years)

Bachelor of Music Honours Degree – 8 Semesters (4 years)

Course Description

The department seeks to impart music education of the highest quality possible in order to foster a creative, competitive and productive learning spirit among the students. The music curriculum aims to provide students with a strong musical foundation and effective musicianship and leadership skills so that they will be equipped to render professional and qualitative service in the field of music

 
MUSIC PROGRAMS OFFERED:
 
In the 1st year all students take the same courses. Those who want to take Conducting emphasis must choose that at the end of the 1st year and pass an audition. For other students, they must choose at the end of the 2nd year which emphasis they want. Those choosing Theory Pedagogy must first pass a qualification exam.
 
Acceptance into the Sacred Music emphasis will be decided by the department  faculty based on the student’s performance in prior ministry courses (i.e Introduction to Church Music and Congregational Song) and having a sense of direction in music ministries.
 
Eligibility/Requirements
 
  • Class XII (or latest degree) passed with a minimum of 45% in any stream (those awaiting result may still apply).
  • Basic music theory knowledge: All major and minor scales, all key signatures, intervals, triads, inversions, transposition, meter and rhythm.

Application Process:

 

March-April: Applicants must submit the duly filled Audition Form with all required documents to the MSSM Office by April 24. Class 12 students may apply with results pending.

May: Eligible applicants are called for audition and entrance test which will be held on May 5 & 6.

At the Entrance Test/Audition, each applicant must:
A. Perform two pieces:
i) One piece from the given list : 

ii) One piece of your own choosing but classical in style.
 

B. Sight-read some music.

C. Do a listening test (pitch+rhythm).

 

July: Semester begins.
