NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

Motto: Unity and Discipline

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a voluntary youth organization under the Ministry of Defence, closely associated with the Indian Armed Forces, headquartered in New Delhi. Established on 15 July 1948 under the Ministry of Defence, it is a tri-services organization comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The NCC aims to groom school and college students into disciplined, responsible, and patriotic citizens. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the world’s largest uniformed youth organization.

Organization:

The NCC unit at Patkai Christian College was established in 1988. Since its inception, the unit has made consistent and meaningful contributions to the college through active participation in institutional and community-based activities. Over the years, it has produced several officers and personnel serving in the Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, state police, civil administration, and other professional fields. The unit has also nurtured cadets who have represented the college at prestigious national platforms, including the Republic Day Camp (RDC), reflecting its sustained commitment to excellence.

At present, the college has two wings: the Army Wing, attached to 1 NL Battalion NCC, Kohima, and the Air Wing, attached to No. 1 NL Air Squadron NCC, Dimapur. These are guided by two trained Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), Lieutenant Ruokoneino Ziekhru and Flight Lieutenant Wetshete Thopi, respectively.

Currently, there are 50 cadets in the Army Wing and 45 cadets in the Air Wing.

Structure:
The NCC consists of three wings—Army, Navy, and Air Force, with cadets enrolled from schools and universities across the country.

Training Activities:
Cadets undergo basic military training, including drill, weapon handling, map reading, field craft, and participation in community service.

Objectives:
To develop character, leadership, comradeship, and a secular outlook among youth.

Benefits:
Cadets gain valuable life skills and are given preference in Armed Forces recruitment, though there is no obligation for active military service.
